When an object such as a pillar on a crane changes its shape, this strain gauge shows whether the strain is compressed (decreased in length) or stretched (increased in length). The strain is detected by a strain gauge attached to the measured object. When the measured object changes, the resistance of the strain gauge will change the reading of the gauge.
