A simple signal diode can be used to construct a highly sensitive fire alarm. Silicon diodes such as OA71 and 1N34 respond to infrared radiation by generating reverse current. In reverse bias mode, this effect is more significant. Normally, the diode generates 2 mV for every degree of temperature increase, so this circuit uses this feature to detect fire.
