Every idea map is comprised of two basic elements: concepts that are often represented by circles, ovals, or boxes and are referred to as "nodes." Relationships are indicated by arrows that link the concepts, and the arrows frequently (but not always) include a connecting phrase or verb. These arrows are referred to as "cross-links."
