A conventional apartment floor layout or diagram is a two-dimensional drawing to scale from above, giving an architect or an end-user a birds-eye view of the apartment layout. An apartment floor layout shows off the rooms and where they are in relation to each other. The layout also shows the location of windows, doorways, and fixtures. In the following apartment floor layout, thick lines represent exterior walls and a thin line indicates an interior wall. Dotted squares might be used to indicate an architectural cut or feature, such as a tray or a vaulted ceiling. In the apartment floor layout, the bedroom closet will either be a rectangle or a square depending on its dimensions. Doors into the close, and the direction they open, are indicated with door symbols. At the same time, in the apartment floor layout, the apartment has a dedicated dining room, the space will be labeled as a dining room. The same goes for the kitchen area and the study rooms.
