A value stream is the set of actions that take place to add value to a customer from the initial request through the realization of value by the customer. In modeling terms, a company value stream map (VSM) are artifacts within business architecture that allow a business to specify the value proposition derived by an external medium from an organization. As shown in the image, value stream maps can be cross-mapped to enable business capabilities that describe what and how an organization must do to deliver value to the stakeholder. The first stage in company value stream mapping is to create a current state map as a VSM is a visual tool that displays all critical steps in a specific process and easily quantifies the time and volume taken at each stage.
