1. Introduction

Call of Duty (short: CoD) is a first-person video game series. Starting in 2003, Activision first focused on games set in World War II. Over time, the background of this series of games is set in the Cold War, the future world and outer space. These games were first developed by Infinity Ward and then by Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games. Other developers have produced several derivative games and handheld games. There are 24 games in total, excluding add-ons and DLC. This timeline is about the Call of Duty games and their release dates in order of release.
