High-variety production like mass customization is facing the challenge of effective variety management. The following BPMN diagram illustrates the main process between a client and the company. The company here comprises a sales team, manufacturing department, purchasing section, shipping/logistics module. Planning and control take place according to the process shown in the below diagram. One of the important problems to solve is the distribution of documentation. It is closely connected with its functions: identification of the product, the definition of manufacturing routes, and the function of a carrier for data collection.
