A genogram outperforms a traditional family tree because it is a detailed schematic design that displays the relationships, hereditary, and behavioral patterns that members of a family share, as well as how these patterns affect family members' lives. It is also known as a McGoldrick–Gerson study, a Lapidus schematic or a family diagram is a pictorial display of a person's family relationships and medical history. It goes beyond a standard family tree by allowing users to see hereditary patterns as well as psychological aspects that affect relationships. It can be used to recognize inherited inclinations and identify repeating patterns of behavior.
