This means that everyone on the chart is directly related to you: you as the focus individual, your parents, their parents, and so on—typically going back six or seven generations. Starting with an Ancestry Pedigree Chart, such as the one shown, is the simplest way to start putting together a family tree. The basic difference between a family tree and a pedigree chart is that the pedigree chart is usually a direct lineage chart that only shows your parents, grandparents, great grandparents, and so on.
