The symptoms of alcohol withdrawal syndrome (AWS) occur when a heavy drinker abruptly stops or significantly reduces their alcohol intake. AWS can cause various physical and emotional symptoms, ranging from mild anxiety and fatigue to nausea. Some AWS symptoms are severe, such as hallucinations and seizures.
