When electrical components are joined together to form a circuit, current can flow unbroken from the terminals of the power source to the other end. A dry cell, or a series of dry cells connected in series, is typically used as the power source in simple circuits. It's wired up to something that needs power, like a bulb, a resistor, a heater, etc. The circuit is considered closed as long as there is current flowing through the circuit. However, an open circuit is formed whenever a circuit disruption interrupts the current flow.
