It categorizes growth opportunities into four types: cash cows, stars, dogs, and question marks. Cash cows: These are mature and profitable businesses that generate significant cash flow. They are usually responsible for funding the growth of other businesses within the company. Stars: These are growing and profitable businesses that have potential for high growth and market share. They require investment to maintain or accelerate growth. Dogs: These are mature and unprofitable businesses that have low potential for growth. They often require heavy investment to turn around and may not be worth salvaging. Question marks: These are new or emerging businesses with unknown potential and high risk. They require significant investment to grow and may not be profitable in the short term.
