End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) is a medical condition in which a person's kidneys cease functioning permanently, leading to the need for a regular course of long-term dialysis or a kidney transplant to maintain life. As the ESRD Genogram illustrates, the most common causes of ESRD in North America are Diabetes and high blood pressure. Families with a child on chronic peritoneal dialysis have to assume a significant burden of care, intensifying the demands and the reorganization of roles in the families of children. The ESRD Genogram diagram illustrates that dialysis patients with ESRD are uniquely at risk for developing cancer.
