A genogram is a graphic representation of a family structure that includes at least three generations. Its goal is to allow the system's member (in this case, you) to perceive their context in a visual format, allowing critical moments and noticeable patterns to be recognized and recorded (Kerr & Bowen, 1988). Murray Bowen created the genogram, which has since been used by a variety of family therapy approaches as well as disciplines outside of family therapy.
