General genogram is shown here. A genogram is architecturally similar to a family tree, yet it serves a completely different function. A genogram incorporates information about family members' relationships and interactions, whereas a family tree merely illustrates lineage. When a genogram has information about several generations, it becomes extremely important. Patterns that are normally difficult to discern appear to spring out once they have been mapped on paper.
