Students will be able to identify shared features of two objects using a Venn diagram compare and contrast. Students write shared characteristics where the circles overlap (things that are the same). Students will list features unique to each object in the circles to the left and right (items that are different). Venn Diagrams can compare and contrast in any grade level or discipline. If students are unfamiliar with this graphic organizer, have them practice with topics that have obvious similarities and differences. Use two hula hoops to make a Venn Diagram for younger students and kinesthetic learners. Students should write characteristics on cards (or use cards made by the teacher) and place them in the appropriate areas of the diagram.
