The 23rd FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international mens soccer championship contested by the national teams of FIFA member associations, will be held in 2018. The United 2026 bid defeated Moroccos bid in a final vote at the 68th FIFA Congress in Moscow. It will be the first World Cup hosted by more than one country since 2002, and the first by more than two. Mexico will become the first country to host or cohost the mens World Cup three times, following its hosting of the tournaments in 1970 and 1986. The United States last hosted the World Cup in 1994, while Canada will be hosting or cohosting the mens tournament for the first time.
