Using a Hierarchy Diagram Template

Step 1: Select Blank Layout

Enable Google Slides on the browser and open a new slide. Click Layout on the toolbar and choose Blank on the drop-down menu.

Step 2: Insert a Hierarchy Diagram Template

In Google Slides, there are no exact pre-made organizational chart templates. However, you can use a hierarchy diagram to draw your own org chart, since both of them are designed for presenting the hierarchical relationship.

Go to the Insert tab, click Diagram on the drop-down menu to open the Diagrams pane, where you can find the desired the hierarchy diagram.

Click the Hierarchy icon and choose your favorite type of diagrams on the pane. Besides, you can modify the number of levels and the theme color.

Step 3: Make Your Own Org Chart

Click on the thumbnail and the org chart that you select will be inserted into the slide. Now you can input the employee information on the chart.

Step 4: Format Your Org Chart in Google Slides

Select one of the employee cards, right-click on it and choose Format Option on the context menu to open the Format options pane.

With other formatting options on the toolbar, you can change the style, color, size or position of the selected card.

Using a Google Sheets Org Chart

The first way to create an org chart in Google Slides can be time-consuming if there are too many employees added to the chart.

Consequently, we will introduce you the second way to create an org chart in Google Slides, which you need to create the organizational chart in Google Sheets at the beginning.

Once you have made an org chart in Google Sheets based on the data, go to the Insert tab of Google Slides, click Chart > From Sheets on the menu.

Follow the instructions and import the Google Sheets org chart into the slide. Now, the inserted org chart may look like the below chart.

How to Create an Org Chart in Edraw Max

However, compared with those professional organizational chart makers, Google Slides is not competent to make complicated org charts at all. Therefore, I would like to recommend Edraw Max to you. It will automate the process and create an organizational chart for you in minutes.

Step 1: Find an Org Chart Template

Go to Edraw Templates, and choose your desired org chart template from the template gallery.

Then you can enable Edraw Max, click Import on the Home page and the application will open the template. You are able to edit the template and make your own org chart.

Step 2: Import Your Org Chart Data

If you already have sorted out the data of making the org chart in a worksheet or CSV file, you can also import the data into Edraw Max and the application will generate an org chart for you automatically.

Open a blank org chart template, go to the File tab, click Import Data on the drop-down menu and the Import Data dialog box will show up.

Click the Org Chart icon, and you will see the Data Import Wizard is open. Then you need to find the data file in your computer and follow the instruction on the Wizard to import the data.

Step 3: Customize Your Org Chart

To change the color or style of the fill, line or shadow, click the Style icon to open Fill/Line/Shadow pane.

To change the background color or insert a watermark on the org chart, click the Page Setup icon edrawmax page setup icon to open the Page pane.

To change the layout or add employee cards on the org chart, click the Org Chart icon edrawmax orgchart icon on the right sidebar and open the Organizational Chart pane. Besides, you can also import data, export the org chart or change the content layout of the employee card.

With these formatting tools, you can adjust the layout, and modify colors, text, card sizes, outlines, etc. so that the org chart can fit the style of your company.

How to Save an Org Chart as PowerPoint File

When you have created an org chart in Google Slides, you can go to the File tab, click Download on the drop-down menu and choose Microsoft PowerPoint, PDF Document, JPEG image or PNG image to save your org chart in different file formats.

Go to the File tab, click Export and pick the desired exporting format.
